Arthur Verge was posted to the Australian Army Medical Corps as medical officer with the rank of Captain to the 6th Australian Light Horse Regiment. A specialist dermatologist who had gained a fellowship at the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, and studied dermatology on the Continent, he ran a specialist practice in Macquarie Street before enlisting. The 6thLight Horse landed in Gallipoli on the 20th May 1915, where Verge fell ill with Dysentery. He was eventually evacuated to Egypt where he died on the 18th September 1915.

Verge played two Tests for Australia and 8 for New South Wales. He was a member of the Sydney University Rugby Football Club. Described as a solid all-round player, he was also a good all-round cricketer.
