What qualifications do you need?

Your qualification should aline with the age/level that your athletes are playing.

TO COACH U6 OR U7 RUGBY?

MINIMUM: Due to the game style being tag and not tackle, there is no minimum compulsory requirement at this age group.
 
RECOMMENDED: Attendance at a Coaching Kids Skills Workshop. These courses are conducted primarily at clubs on a training night and can be arranged with your local development officer.
 
TO COACH U8 TO U12 RUGBY?
 
MINIMUM: SmartRugby qualification is the minimum compulsory requirement.
 
RECOMMENDED: A Coaching Kids Rugby (U8 to U12) Program is recommended for anyone coaching U8 to U12 rugby. This program is fully online through the Rugby Learning Centre. Attendance at a Coaching Kids Skills Workshop is advisable. These courses are conducted primarily at clubs on a training night and can be arranged with your local development officer.
 
TO COACH YOUTH RUGBY? (U12 TO U15)
 
MINIMUM: Smart Rugby qualification is the minimum compulsory requirement.
 
RECOMMENDED: Anyone coaching junior rugby should attend a Foundation Course (this course incorporates Smart Rugby) and obtain a Foundation Certificate. Attending a Foundation course is also the first step in obtaining a Level 1 Coach Accreditation. Obtaining this Accreditation is strongly encouraged for all youth rugby coaches of U13-U15 teams.
 
ENCOURAGED: For coaches looking at working with representative youth players progression into the Developing Coach Course program is strongly encouraged. Full completion of this program provides a Level 2 Coach Accreditation.
 

TO COACH YOUTH RUGBY / EMERGING ATHLETES (CLUB & SCHOOL U16 - COLTS)

MINIMUM: Smart Rugby qualification is the minimum compulsory requirement.
 
RECOMMENDED: Anyone coaching senior rugby must hold a current Smart Rugby accreditation. Enrollment Developing Coach Course program is advised and this will lead to obtaining a Coach Level 2 Accreditation. This is strongly encouraged for all  rugby coaches of U16 athletes and above. Full completion of this program provides a dual Rugby AU/World Rugby Level 2 Coach Accreditation.
 
ENCOURAGED: Anyone coaching representative rugby or managing the coaching framework with a club environment is encouraged to enroll in the Emerging Coach Program. Successful completion of this program leads to a dual Rugby AU/World Rugby Level 3 Coach accreditation. You should have Level 2 Coach accreditation before attempting to obtain Level 3 Coach accreditation.

TO COACH SENIOR RUGBY? (SUBURBAN, COLTS, GRADE, COUNTRY ZONES)

 
MINIMUM: Smart Rugby qualification is the minimum compulsory requirement.
 
RECOMMENDED: Anyone coaching senior rugby must hold a current Smart Rugby accreditation. Enrollment Developing Coach Course program is advised and this will lead to obtaining a Coach Level 2 Accreditation. This is strongly encouraged for senior rugby coaches. Full completion of this program provides a dual Rugby AU/World Rugby Level 2 Coach Accreditation.
