Year Commenced Refereeing:
What motives you to referee at the highest level?
I love the challenge, I love the intensity and pressure that go hand in hand with the big games and I love the relationships formed with other officials, players and coaches.
What have been your Highlights so far?
My highlights are many and varied. I have enjoyed officiating at Super Rugby and Test level for many years. However, most of my highlights involve officiating in some of the smaller Rugby playing nations, such as Tonga, PNG, Hong Kong and Samoa. I find the carnival atmosphere and passion that inevitably go hand in hand with Test matches or tournaments in these countries, make these experiences unique and unforgettable
Who are your Role Models?
As a junior referee, I always looked up to Peter Marshall. I was lucky enough to be refereed by him as a schoolboy and I always loved the flow that he achieved in his games.
My role model is Waisale Serevi. I still regard him as the greatest 7s player that I have ever seen. My admiration for his skills on the field is second only to my admiration for him as a person. His humility and Christian witness have taught me a great deal.
What do you like and dislike about refereeing?
I love the pressure, the atmosphere, the physical challenge, the travel and the relationships. I dislike the technicalities and complexities that sometimes confuse supporters and give referees a bad name.
What do you do outside of Refereeing?
