What got you into refereeing?
My brother, Brian was a very good schoolboy referee, so he inspired me to give it a go. Continued playing but soon realised my body couldn’t keep up with my brain.
Best on-field moment(s)
Every single Test match, so many different experiences but the moment when both teams line up and the anthems are being played is special and you realise what a privilege it is to be involved. If I had to single one out, 2nd Test All Blacks v British & Irish Lions in 2005.
Best off-field moment(s)
Touring South Africa, Being involved in RWCs 1999, 2003 & 2015 – great team environments.
Funniest refereeing moment
Being called out by Prince William for letting out an expletive during the second Test NZ v British & Irish Lions 2005.
