Jordan Way and Damon Murphy have both been reselected on the match official panel for the 2017-18 HSBC World 7s Series.

Way has been selected for six tournaments including the Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast in April.  Murphy has been selected for 8 tournaments including the Commonwealth Games.  Both compatriots will be working together at the Sydney, Hamilton, Vegas, Vancouver and Hong Kong legs of the circuit.

“Yeah, pretty stoked to be going around again this year” said Murphy.

The reselection of Way and Murphy in 2017-18 is another feather in the cap of Australian officiating who have produced a number of high performing elite 7s referees since the World Series began.  Almost without exception, Australia has had two referees on the panel every year.  Notable previous officials have included Anthony Moyes (200+ World Series 7s games), Andrew Lees (referee of final at the 2007 Rugby World Cup 7s), Matt O’Brien (Olympic referee 2016) and Amy Perrett.

No doubt the focus for both this season will be on the Rugby World Cup 7s in San Francisco in July.

“It is almost a 12 month refereeing cycle for us now.  We move from the final tournament in May to various 15s roles before starting pre season and going around again.  Last year there was a large number of referees over a number of tournaments. The group has shrunk this year as it will do going forward leading into the next Olympic games” said Way.
